Acting Intensive with Victor Cruz

Victor received a B.F.A in the Conservatory for Acting at SUNY Purchase College.

WHAT DO I TEACH IN MY CLASS?

I help students free themselves from their own fears and the myths that exist about the industry. I help students find their voice, their confidence and their inner strength. I open up my classes with a series of warm ups, games and exercises. These elements will help the student to open up. We work on character development, storytelling and dramatic structure through improvisation. Then we work on monologues, scene work, and by the tail end of class, we do mock auditions. This is very helpful for the actor who has never auditioned before to get a sense of what it is like and for the actor who has, but wants to get better at it. I bring in audition material, I give the actor a few minutes to prepare and then we begin the audition process. I create an environment where the students feel as if it were a real audition. I then give notes and the students and I discuss what we’ve discovered together.
